A quarter of a million children will participate in the Team Rynkeby School Run

Nearly a quarter of a million schoolchildren will take part when Team Rynkeby Foundation holds the annual “Team Rynkeby School Run” for the benefit of critically ill children.

A total of 245,000 schoolchildren will lace up their trainers and join in when the “Team Rynkeby School Run” this year is held at no less than 924 schools in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

This is an increase of 16 percent compared to last year and the highest number of participants in Team Rynkeby School Run ever.

In Denmark and Norway, the Run takes place on the Friday before the Easter holidays, while the Swedish and Finnish pupils will have 14 days longer to train – here the Run takes place on the first Friday in May.

“It is simply overwhelming that so many schools are supporting the idea that children can run for children suffering from critical illnesses. It creates a very special pride among the pupils that, with a relatively limited effort, they can make a real difference for other children,” says Carl Erik Dalbøge, Director of Team Rynkeby Foundation.

Learning to help others
It’s the fifth time that Team Rynkeby Foundation is behind the Team Rynkeby School Run, which has become a recurring event in many schools.

“It’s become a natural part of the school year for many schools,” says Carl Erik Dalbøge.

“We’re hearing from the schools that it is important for them to create traditions that all pupils across classes and years can share in common. Kids have a lot to learn at school, including the fact that they have the opportunity to help when others need it. This applies not only to school itself, but also to the surrounding community. It is precisely this framework that the Team Rynkeby School Run sets up so nicely to support the teaching,” he continues.

Everyone can take part
Before the Run, the pupils have the opportunity to enter into micro-sponsorships with family, friends and neighbours, and the funds are given in their entirety to the organisations that Team Rynkeby Foundation cooperates with in the individual countries.

“The philosophy of the Run is that it is not about how much money the individual can raise, but that everyone has the opportunity to contribute. And when there are so many children involved in the Run, the individual child doesn’t need to put in a lot of effort to actually make a noticeable difference for the children whom the Run is all about,” says Carl Erik Dalbøge.

Last year alone, children from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland raised € 1.9 million for children with critical illnesses in connection with the Team Rynkeby School Run.

Facts:

Denmark: 305 schools / 94,000 schoolchildren
Sweden: 384 schools / 106,000 schoolchildren
Norway: 57 schools / 12,000 schoolchildren
Finland: 178 schools / 33,000 schoolchildren
